Okay, so I did a little sleuthing...(thank you Nancy Drew)...and guess what I found
hidden in the Help menu of the Hometown page.
Yes, I'm good, but I'm better when I'm bad. I ain't the queen for nothing. I keep telling you people this.
So now, you can say you saw it here first, and not from the Editor's whose job it should have been. But hey, that's what they're getting paid the big money for, and I'm not.
Hmm...now lets all do a little reading, shall we?

They've always been there... But they don't mention vulgarities [masked or otherwise]. Nice post.
I'm a Star Trek fan. I don't remember the Prime Directive mentioning any of this. I've seen it before, it reminds me of the cowpatty policies written by my department!
SPECIFICALLY: AOL Journals are a place for members to share their everyday experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Journaling can also be a creative outlet showcasing a member?s talent for parody and humor, therefore, some Journals may be more graphic than others and may not suit all sensibilities.
no mention of veiled vulgarity either.
so they contraDICKED themselves, eh?
Hmmm, I'm not going to say which one...but I may be in violation of one of these :o)
Thanks for posting this....very interesting.
Hmmmm. Looking for masked vulgarities too and I'm afraid I don't see it anywhere. How interesting. LMAO! But THIS is the one that really caught my attention:

Ummm. Maybe I'm an idiot (albeit one with a genius IQ), but does that mean what I think it does? LOL!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ok thats al i wanted to say lol
uh oh ... I think I know of a few journals who might be considered in 'violation' of such rules. Mmmm, mine included! Interesting ... WHERE was the masked $h*t?
Smilin Mon
Wow....you really ARE the queen! I bow down to your greatness! lol

Huh? What? I can't do what? Well, what the heck CAN I do?
Alas~i remember reading this all=to
[my Glow is so clean you could sell it to
your grand=children!] And then, or still,
I glow to advance its Inherent Beauty~~
Twas ever thus.
Ok, i've read it, read it again, used a fine tooth nitpick, and still can't see anything about masked vulgarity. All I can see is about sex of a violent nature or threatening and trying to sell it and we aint about all that!

That's the kicker right there. They can change them and not have to have to tell you until after they change a rule and you break it.

Huh? Oh, I guess I've been a v. bad girl.... again! They forgot to send me these rules! Oh well! ;) Hey, do they have a SUGGESTION box? I think they left a few loopholes... Jenn
I think the rules are pretty much common sense. We all know what is and is not appropriate. And a lot of journalers choose to go the inappropriate route. We all know that. What's disappointing is the fact that Muse's journal is extremely clean cut. That was ONE entry out of dozens and dozens of entries. She should have been given the chance to remove it before she was removed from the list. They obviously didn't think it objectionable enough to shut her journal down. So why not take two seconds to send an email? How hard would that have been? ::sigh::
::standing behind Slo, throwing my fists up and screaming::
Hell ya. What Slo said!!!
AHa, I remember skimming something like that once, I think when I started my journal last September ... hmmm. Apparently I need to find somewherez else to have my journalling fun, I violate quite a few of those... repeatedly. And then this thing thats going on now, well, that's just the icing, eh?

In addition to what Slomo said down below, they didn't make it clear that even "masked vulgarities" are not allowed, not until after they took me off the list. I obviously tried to edit myself, even though it was merely a quote and not something I said. How in the world are we supposed to know that even "masked" vulgarities are unacceptable?
Also, some vulgarities are allowed and not others. It's ridiculous. They should publish a clear list of what words are a no no, sort of like George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words and make it clear that masking them isn't enough. Otherwise, the whole thing is a joke.
