No time like the present to take action, when action is indeed, needed....
So, after reading Wessolo's account about the recent decision to yank Mara's journal from the hot spot; and by the way, this would be the second time that a great journal has been yanked....(they did it to Adlessor and replaced it with, get this..an AOL EDITOR'S JOURNAL.)
So anyway, I feel compelled to take an official position on this, and it goes thusly:
On second thought, Mr. Editor, you know what - y'all can kiss my royal arse - and NO - you may NOT feature my journal on your stupid list.
Hallelujah. Amen. Now, please pass the salt...

All I can say about all this is that I have sworn in my journal on numerous occasions and wasn't yanked or even told to cut the crap. I have heard of others being warned, however, to "be pleasant or happy" because that's what people like to read. That has not been my experience, though, so I am stumped why it happened to other people.

So I take it by the date of that email (4/04) and your response that you haven't heard back from the Editors? In reading this entry, I don't know whether this means you officially declined in protest or not. Note however, they wrote me in Nov & I didn't get on the list until JAN, so often there's a long delay.
I think what happened to Mara is tragic, but even she admits AOL must have rules for such stuff & I agree. The error here is not so much that they pulled her journal, but THE WAY they did it. 1) They didn't notify her, 2) they didn't give her the opportunity to fix it and 3) their "rules" aren't outlined anywhere! So how are we supposed to know what's allowable & what isn't?
Some don't care what they post & I say "more power to 'em." BUT I'm a writer & I hate to adhere to editorial guidelines. Maybe that's why I'm not as shocked as others by this unfortunate incident. ¤Holly

It's happened more than twice ... I've seen about 4 journals get yanked from thier position. We know it won't be the last. As a corporation I'm sure they have to set standards of what they promote. There are many excellent journals that will never be featured for those very reasons.

The queen is outraged and so are her subjects!!! What kind of bull is going on here. I think we need to fire the editors of j-land. Who gives them a paycheck anyway? This is totally outrageously putrid.

Thank you for the words of support here and in e-mails. The one good thing that came of this is that people started discussing the issues of fair play and stood their ground, like you so emphatically do here.
Hopefully the buzz this issue has taken will compel the journal editors to give us the journalers the respect that we deserve.
As always, I curtsy to you, and to all who supportively commented here regarding this brouhaha.
