I won't bore you with the chemical reactions that happen at the cellular level, but listen up... here is something even more important -
"Dietary calcium in the form of dairy had an even greater effect on reducing fat storage than a calcium supplement."
"Researchers, led by Michael B. Zemel, Ph.D., director of the Universitys Nutrition Institute, found support for their conclusions in data from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III), which shows an inverse relationship between calcium and dairy intakes and body fat in adults. The researchers concluded that low calcium diets lead to increased fat storage and higher calcium diets favor increased burning of fat."
There is a lot of information out there on this subject...That's homework you'll need to do for yourselves...
And let's not forget about our calcium needs as we age to prevent osteoporosis, maintain blood pressures, and nerve conductability...some seriously good other reasons to keep dairy in our diets! Almost every nutritionist will tell you that the best way for the body to absorb nutrients is in their natural form.
Okay, so now, don't you feel better? We can absolutely have that milk shake! - just take out some of the fat content...so try, frozen yogurt, lowfat ice cream with skim milk...if you like, add a banana or other fresh fruit for zing...remember...calcium needs Vitamin D to be absorbed....how perfect that milk and ice cream has both...
so - here's to milkshakes and successful dieting - cheers!

YES...THERE IS A GOD!
Amen my sister ...Preach On !
I guarantee its true for eggs..I'll probably die before they prove that one... but remember microwaving plastic??/ Took years, then vindication...natural foods all the way.
now if they could only prove chocolate....
That makes perfect sense that less calcium would increase fat retention. Any time your body lacks vital nutrients, it goes into starvation mode, lowering metabolism. As far as milkshakes go, you can do healthy smoothies, which are a lot better in my opinion. Blend nonfat yoghurt and fresh fruit. Or frozen yoghurt and fruit- that would be your milkshake right there, without all of the added guilt!
yes, yes, yes, yes...yes...you're all smart women - drink up sistahs...
