sigh - it seems like the world is going to hell in a handbasket...now congress wants to cut funding on Ernie, Big Bird, Oscar, Arthur, Clifford, Reading Rainbow and other childrens shows..
what....the.....heck?!
Please sign the petition telling Congress to save NPR and PBS and email it on to others in your address book...

A House panel has voted to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS, starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow," and other commercial-free children's shows. If approved, this would be the most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch.
The cuts would slash 25% of the federal funding this year—$100 million—and end funding altogether within two years. The loss could kill beloved children's shows like "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Arthur," and "Postcards from Buster." Rural stations and those serving low-income communities might not survive. Other stations would have to increase corporate sponsorships.
Already, 300,000 people have signed the petition. Can you help us reach 400,000 signatures today?

Darling, I know they'd like to. Children's Television Workshop has enough non-profit revenue to fund Sesame Street as a commercial program. I hope it doesn't come to that, as our legislators are assholes. I grew up learning all I ever needed to know from Sesame Street. Keeps me in good stead, even today.

Hmmm...I wonder if this is part of Bush's "Children First" initiative? I guess they figure if they can't rein in the liberalist activities of PBS, they'll just pull the plug.
Thanks for the notice! :-) ---Robbie
