#404...The Free-fall.

What runs through the mind of a man
Falling untold stories, having jumped at will
                                         To escape a landscape
                                            Of fire and smoke

                                         And death surrounding

What clarities come with the moment -
                                 when fingers slip deliberately away
                                           From reinforced steel
                                             And false security,

                                           Of things man-made,
                                           Now man-destroyed

Which of his memories rush after
                                               him to comfort -
When life was good and hummed to daily necessity

                                           Is it familiar voices,
                                            Or beloved faces,
Or the taste of morning coffee
                                sipped appreciating an Aegean sky?

What seeps through the heart of Men
                                                 Free-falling
                                          Against blurred visions
                                             Of steel and glass -

Unbridled, untethered, to life once known

                                         What kind of man-evil
                                      need call on blue
 mornings

                                       Uninvited and unappointed,
In the form of jet fuel

and human body parts

To bear the name of Allah?

The jumpers have haunted me since the moment I realized what those noises were. Thank you for the words. I had none for this.

Great poem^
This was the image no=one could wrap their
head around & still can't.  Unchosen burning or
aery suicide?  G forbid anyone should ever have
to choose again.   *choke*

You have a great journal. I've added it to my favourites. I think you've fingered the image that most disturbed people on that day. The only thing I didn't like was the last line. Just as I don't blame Christians in general for the deaths of thousands of Muslims at the hands of a misguided few during the crusades, I don't blame Muslims in general for the deaths of thousands at the hands of a misguided few on September 11th, 2001.

i don't blame all muslims either paul - no true muslim would do such atrocities.

- in the end, i chose that line - because it is as horrific as the jumpers to think that Allah would want and even condone this.

the terrorists are their own legion of hell, not heaven, as they claim to be.

May Allah continue to bless America, for using his name in their game.
